Responsibilities:
- As directed by the Vice President of Pathology
and Toxicology to maintain animal facility compliance with various
regulatory agencies.
- Work with Study Directors to ensure that study protocols and conduct meet all
requirements for animal care according to the U.S. Department of Health
and Human Services Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory
Animals
- Observe study animals and provide routine animal health and clinical veterinary care for all animals in the laboratory.
- Prepare all required reports for AAALAC accreditation, NIH, USDA, and DEA inspections.
- Develop and review new procedures and technologies as required, including development of new surgical procedures.
- Develop AAALAC and facility programs, and Animal Care and Use Committee policies.
- Actively participate in the site IACUC as a voting or non-voting member.
- Manage a staff of clinical veterinarians, veterinary technicians, compliance specialist, and R&D specialist.
Requirements:
- Veterinary degree with a desire to work in a pre-clinical environment.
- ACLAM (board certified in lab animal medicine) strongly desired but not required. WE CAN HELP YOU ACHIEVE THIS. Efforts to become (ACLAM) will be supported.
- Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
