The current membership of the LGVMA falls largely along the lines of America's population, with the largest percentage of our members in the most populous states: California, Florida, & New York.

But we think it is more important to ask: Are there no lesbian & gay veterinarians in the following states:

Arkansas, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho, Iowa, Louisiana (the host state for next year's AVMA convention), Maine, Mississippi, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, Nevada, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Dakota, and Wyoming?

We know of course, there are gay or lesbian veterinarians in these states; many of them are our friends or classmates. Either they don't know about the LGVMA, or they are closeted and don't feel comfortable reaching out to us, or else they don't see the need for the LGVMA.

How do we reach the members in the former two groups? We're doing everything we can, but always welcome new ideas for outreach to new or potential members.

Update: From the beginning, our group was designed as a North American organization and we are searching for ways to increase our Canadian membership as well.
